Rewitec developed the Nanotribologic Coating in order to revitalize and prevent the wear of combustion engines, gears, transmissions, and bearings. With this technology, it is possible to clean carbonized and worn surfaces and coat them for a renewed machine life.
The vessel MV Gloria had high piston ring wear and cylinder line wear in the main engine, Sulzer (2-stroke engine 6 RTA 62U 6 cylinder). With Rewitec Technology the chief engineer′s expected to stop the wear process and extend the life of cylinders to 30,000 hours.
While sailing from Hamburg, the engine was treated with Rewitec Nanotribologic Coating by applying it with the cylinder lubricating oil. The engine was monitored during operation. In the 48 hour sail to Rotterdam the signs of wear were reduced, and the engineers detected improvements. A second treatment was applied a few days later when sailing to Tilbury. It resulted in outstanding improvements.
Around 1,000 service hours later, Rewitec engineers together with the chief engineer inspected the motor and analyzed the monitored data. All wear in the piston rings and cylinder liner was completely gone and a visible coating on the surface was noticed. Rewitec Nanotribologic Coating made it possible to avoid expensive engine repair and saved the ship owners costly downtime of the vessel. The cost saving was over $600,000.
